Hypnobirthing birth story

A lovely birth story from one of our mummas who shares her experience of using hypnobirthing for her pregnancy and birth. It shows how beneficial it can be regardless how you birth your baby- thank you so much for sharing!

I started KG Hypnobirthing when I was about 20 weeks pregnant, I was unsure what to expect but had heard good things from other people so thought I’d give it a go.

It’s fair to say I was pretty anxious about giving birth and felt quite scared about going into labour so I wanted to try and feel as calm and in control as possible when the time came. I was surprised to find that I actually found hypnobirthing really helpful for the rest of my pregnancy, not just for labour. I looked forward to practicing a relaxation or visualisation every evening, it really helped me to take some time to myself and to unwind after work. We also felt like we were preparing well for birth learning about the up breathing and down breathing techniques and my partner loved it as he felt like he was really involved and he learnt loads!

My birth didn’t go quite as planned; I was induced and it was a fairly long process that ended up with a forceps delivery of my gorgeous baby girl. Even though things didn’t go quite as I’d hoped, I used hypnobirthing throughout and it really helped me. I had my headphones in listening to the downloads and I just felt pretty calm even though there was quite a lot going on around me. It wasn’t the birth that I’d wanted, but I wasn’t scared, I felt listened to and I was still able to create a nice relaxed environment to welcome my baby into. After she was born my little girl started breastfeeding straight away and it was just the best feeling ever.

I’ll definitely be using hypnobirthing for my next pregnancy, and probably using some of the relaxations to deal with the night feeds!
